ALPHA MALE: Smart Dressing for Slender Men

While we spent last week discussing style tips for the meatballs of the world, this week we’re going to look at their skinny counterparts.  Just as we shared tips that make a bigger man more appealing to the eye, there are also a set of rules that skinny men should follow to look their best.  With the right collection of tips, we are able to make the very thin man look fit and stylish.

First, avoid slim fitting shirts.

Overly slim dress shirts and t-shirts make a skinny man look like a skeleton.  Just because your rib cage is sticks out further than your chest, it doesn’t mean you should show it off.  Wear fitted tops that

allow for movement in your midsection.  Avoid clingy fabrics – there is nothing more womanly than a thin man in a very tight shirt.

Be smart about blazers.

Next, you can wear single or double-breasted blazers; however, make sure the blazer isnt too large – it should fit properly over your entire body.  Avoid loose fabric under the arms or in the shoulder.  Any well trained tailor should be able to make the proper adjustments to make sure your blazer fits the part.

Pairing pants.

Skinny jeans belong on RISD students, not stylish men in the professional world.  Pants should have a classic cut and remain simple with a flat front.  Patterns and lines will add a bit of volume to your shape, as will pockets when appropriate.  Finally, heavier fabrics such as corduroys will make your legs look thicker and fit . 

Beef up a bit.

Finally, If you want to truly defeat the skinny, join a gym and hire a trainer.  We’ve seen some of our clients completely alter their body types for the better with a few good months of training.    Everything is manly about defeating the skinny – eat a steak, drink a scotch, and hit the bench!
