Highly Trained at La La Luxe

Here at GoLocalProv, we love to highlight the beauty industry talent here in the Ocean State. I had the chance to chat with highly trained Leah Carlson, stylist and owner of La La Luxe Salon in Providence to discuss her beauty philosophy and learn why she loves what she does.

GoLocalProv: Leah, when did you open La La Luxe? And why?

Leah: We only opened in February and already the business has been super successful. We opened because I have known since I was very young that I wanted to be in this industry and my dream was to have my own salon. I am so proud of La La Luxe.

GoLocalProv: What is your background and training in hair?

Leah: I have been doing hair for over nine years and trained at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Miami where I learned Sassoon’s specific precision cutting technique. I have also worked with Nick Arrojo, of TLC’s What Not to Wear at Arrojo Studio in New York. There I became certified in the technique of razor cutting and color placement. I am constantly learning and will be attending another Vidal Sassoon course in Los Angeles in 2011; he’s my idol!

GoLocalProv: Wow, those are some big names in the hair industry! Any dabbling in makeup?

Leah: I actually just finished working with a Laura Mercier makeup artist who taught me a great deal about makeup aristry, more than I already knew! I am obsessed with the entire package of makeup and hair so bringing them both together is really exciting and beneficial to my clients.

GoLocalProv: What is your favorite part of owning La La Luxe?

Leah: It is opening the door everyday and greeting my first client. People love getting their hair cut and I can make them feel beyond good and that is the best feeling. I am always extending my repertoire and have a highly trained staff to make people look and feel fabulous.

GoLocalProv: One last question: where did the name La La Luxe come from?

Leah: (Laughs) I was discussing words and names with my niece Olivia and she came up with it: she’s three.
