The LOOK: Playing with Temporary Hair Color

With all the high fashion colors going on in the movie business, I often get questioned by everyday clients who would like to know how the celebs can change their hair color on a whim, and as often as they do, without the damage?

Here is your answer. We use various techniques, including hair pieces (which we will cover next week), but mostly we use temporary colors from different lines. I will break down a couple techniques that you can ask your stylist or colorist about. I will also include some color lingo that will come in handy as well.

1. The demi treatment

This technique lasts a little longer than others - about 1 month. Great for covering greying hair or adding tonal value you would like to keep for a while without the root commitment. Two great color lines are It&ly or Goldwell acid color which both impart incredible shine.

2. The semi treatment

This technique last two weeks to a month, depending on how much you shampoo. It's great for fashion colors or adding drama to existing color.

3. Daily wear techniques

Pop up a color for the day either using spray-ons, highliting wands, or just plain hair paints. These can be purchased at many beauty supply stores. A great spray-on is Bumble and bumble or paint stick by Oscar Blandi (and for temporary highlites go with Oscar Blandi as well).

See you next week for how to achieve different looks with hair pieces! x
