The LOOK: Winter Hair Help

Even with no snow on the ground, winter can do a number on your hair.
He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

With January here, let's work on our dry hair. Dried-out tresses are caused by all of our indoor heating; think of how our skin suffers in the winter and needs moisture and nourishment. The same goes for our hair, so here are some easy set of tips on how to keep everything glowing and flowing.

1. Do not over-wash.

Skip the shampoo and go straight for your conditioner if hair is not that dirty. Washing strips oils that protect (until they overwhelm!).

2. Make a hair masque.

On those cold nights in, make it hair masque night (this snowy weekend's the perfect opportunity). There's a number of good ones out there... just make sure they are alcohol- and paraben-free. Want a homemade concoction?  Smash an avocado and a little almond oil together in a bowl, then work through your hair. Cap it or wrap it in hot wet towel, and voila - super shine and health. Do this once every two weeks.

3. Brush out every night.

The old brush of the hair at night before bed is a great way to bring natural oils to the ends of your hair and also stimulate scalp and hair follicles for healthy shiny hair. Your mother's 100 strokes aren't such a bad idea, after all!

Remember: treat your hair with a little TLC this winter and it will return the favor by providing you with a crown of beautiful eye-catching tresses.

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
