GoLocal Now Top Publisher of Obituaries in RI, 94% of Funeral Homes Partner for "No Cost" Obits

GoLocal's innovative "no charge" obituaries model has created the most complete listing in Rhode Island -- which has now surpassed the Providence Journal in the number of obituaries published each week by more than 25%. 

Thanks to the 50 funeral home partners who have joined GoLocal, together southern New Englanders are able to tell their family’s life story at no cost. As there are 53 active funeral homes now operating in Rhode Island -- more than 94% of all funeral homes have partnered in the initiative.

This past week, GoLocal published 101 obituaries — twenty more than the Providence Journal by the Virginia-based media conglomerate Gannett.

The Providence Journal charges upwards of $1,000 for an obituary and more -- as much as $3,000 for longer obituaries. GoLocal, in partnership with the local funeral homes, is committed to providing no cost regardless of the length of the obituary.

“I want to thank the funeral homes across the state that have joined with us. Together we have saved families literally hundreds of thousands of dollars. Rhode Island’s funeral homes are overwhelmingly locally-owned and like GoLocal, connected to the community,” said Josh Fenton, CEO and co-founder of GoLocal24.

For those families whose funeral homes are not a partner, please feel free to forward the obituary from the funeral home and the photo to GoLocal at [email protected] and we will publish it at no cost.  All obituaries need to have been published by a funeral home in order to ensure that the family has approved the content.

In addition, GoLocal posts many of its obituaries to its social media assets.
