Amazon Reveals Why It Really Canceled New York City HQ2 Plans

Amazon has revealed why the company really canceled the plan for New York City HQ2 plans.

According to the company, politics was not a factor in the decision to scrap building in Long Island City.

But the e-commerce giant adds that when local opposition became too great, it opted to leave HQ2 plans for northern Virginia.

According to a CNBC study, Virginia was named the Top State for Business in 2019. In contrast, Rhode Island ranked 50th.

One Amazon executive even says that it helped resolve an issue they were facing: bring in 50,000 workers at one time.

Now, 25,000 jobs will go to Crystal City and the rest of the positions will go to other locations.

This will be an easier process for the company compared to the original plan. Amazon’s VP for public policy, Brian Huseman, adds that Virginia has been much more welcoming. Huseman, via CNBC said, that it did originally expect some backlash in NYC.

But after the move was announced last November, opposition grew quickly and fiercely.
