AS220 Placemaking Forum Set For October 6

AS220 will host Unpacking Authentic Placemaking on Tuesday, October 6th at 5:30 p.m. at the Atrium of the Peerless Lofts. 

The discussion will dive into the art and science of building strong and resilient creative communities and will feature panelists such as Rick Lowe, Myrna Breibart, Andres Duany and Umberto Crenca. 

The discussion will me moderated by Marc-Joel Levitt of Action Speaks.

Rick Lowe 

Lowe is from Houston, Texas and is the founder of Project Row Houses. 

Project Row Houses is an arts venue and community support center that Lowe transformed from a block and a half of derelict properties. 

Myrna Breitbart

Breitbart is a professor of geography and urban studies. Her teaching and research focuses on gender, race, and class dimensions of built environments and planning over time. 

Breitbart is the founding member of the Holyoke Planing Network and works with the group on community economic development initiatives. 

Andres Duany 

Duany is an American architect and urban planner. He is also the founder of the Congress for the New Urbanism. 

Duany has co-authored five books and has worked as a visiting professor at several institutions and holds two honorary doctorates. 

Umberto Crenca 

Crenca is a performance and visual artist as well as a musician. Crenca is the artistic director and the found for AS220 which is now in it's 29th year. 

Crenca's works have appeared in the New England Center for Contemporary Art in Brooklyn, CT. and the Newport Art Museum.
