Boston Based Nonprofit Aquires Senior Property in Providence's West End

Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), a national affordable housing nonprofit based in Boston, has announced the closing of their purchase of Aaron Briggs Manor. The three story senior property on Cranston Street contains eighty one-bedroom apartments and eight two-bedroom units.

“Aaron Briggs Manor is an asset for its residents and the entire community. Preserving and renovating this development is a great step towards ensuring that all Rhode Islanders have access to good housing in strong neighborhoods,” stated Barbara Fields, Executive Director of Rhode Island Housing.

“With this acquisition, POAH has ensured that yet another group of Providence seniors will be able to remain in homes that will remain affordable to them well into the future.", said Amy Anthony, President of POAH

This purchase, facilitated by bridge loans, marks the organization’s 11th affordable housing purchase in Rhode Island. POAH is preparing for a 4%  Low Income Housing Tax Credit closing in time to complete the renovations: the organization foresees this occurring in the fall.

“With this acquisition, POAH has ensured that yet another group of Providence seniors will be able to remain in homes that will remain affordable to them well into the future,” said Amy Anthony.

POAH Communities has taken over responsibility for property management and has been holding meetings with residents to notify them about the ownership transfer and to satisfy and questions about the future remodeling.
