Citizens Bank Breaks Ground on Corporate Campus in Johnston

Citizens Financial Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new corporate campus in Johnston on Wednesday. Citizens plans to open the doors to the new campus in mid-2018. 

“We are excited about this new campus, which will be a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster collaboration among colleagues and to deliver an efficient and productive workplace. It will help us to create an excellent experience for our customers and will also be a special place for the community. We are grateful for the continued collaboration we have received from state and local officials that have made this project possible. We look forward to commencing construction soon,” said Bruce Van Saun, Chairman and CEO, Citizens Financial Group.

Van Saun also noted that this is a cost-effective solution and the estimated construction costs to be north of $200 million.

The groundbreaking follows the the company's March announcement of their plan to build a new campus for 3,200 colleagues. 

Gov. Gina Raimondo, Mayor Joseph Polisena, Sen. Jack Reed, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, Rep. Jim Langevin, Rep. David Cicilline were among those who joined Citizens Bank executives for ceremony.

New Campus 

The project includes infrastructure improvements along Greenville Ave like extension of sewer lines into the area by the Narragansett Bay Commission and the construction of a new exit for Interstate 295. 

The campus will feature collaborative work space, dining and fitness facilities for colleagues, and ball fields, tennis, and basketball courts and trails which will be available for use by the community. 

“Citizens’ remarkable corporate campus here in Johnston will contribute significant short- and long-term economic activity that will add to Rhode Island’s comeback, as well as provide key infrastructure improvements that will directly benefit state and local residents. I am proud that Citizens Bank is growing, while supporting construction jobs and employing thousands of Rhode Islanders,” said Governor Gina M. Raimondo. 

The property is being designed to preserve over 60 acres of trees and wetlands to pay homage to the natural environment of the area. 

The Citizens headquarters will remain in Providence.
