Coastway Community Bank Pledges $100,000 to RI Mentoring Partnership

Coastway Community Bank announced Monday that it would pledge $100,000 to the Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership. The money will be used to support the expansion of the mentoring program in Cranston, will be disbursed in increments of $25,000 per year over 4 years, beginning in 2015. The Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership pairs school-age children with adults to meet in school for one hour per week.

“Simply put, Coastway believes in the mentoring mission,” stated William White, Coastway’s president and CEO. “In 2014, we had over 50 employees volunteering their time as mentors in various capacities throughout the state and are constantly working to recruit more. We’ve seen firsthand the difference that can be made in a young person’s life by having a mentor.”

“We’ve been so thrilled with Coastway’s support in the past,” said Jo-Ann Schofield, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership. “We’re honored to be the recipient of this donation, that will enable us to help hundreds more children get the support they need.”

Coastway’s donation is being made in honor of Peter Koch, board member of the bank and long-time mentor. “Our friend and board member, Peter, has devoted countless hours to the Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership and is an outstanding example of who a mentor is,” said White.
    
The Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership is a non-profit organization dedicated to the expansion of mentoring services for Rhode Island youth.
