Elon Musk Begins Massive Layoffs on Friday at Twitter

Layoffs hit the Twitter work force on Friday
In the first two weeks of controlling Twitter, Elon Musk has fired most of the C-suit leadership, including former CEO Parag Agrawal, has floated multiple new monetization strategies, and now, is orchestrating massive layoffs at the company.

The company reportedly employs about 7,500.

CNN reports that a memo sent to staff outlines the layoff process.

The email sent Thursday evening to employees said that they will receive an email by 12 pm ET Friday that informs them of their employment status.

“If your employment is not impacted, you will receive a notification via your Twitter email,” a copy of the email obtained by CNN said. “If your employment is impacted, you will receive a notification with next steps via your personal email.”

According to CNN, the email added that “to help ensure the safety” of employees and Twitter’s systems, the company’s offices “will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended.”

Pay to Play

Musk also floated out that the company is considering charging verified (check mark) users $8 per month.

BBC reports that the idea of charging $8 a month for a Twitter blue tick has drawn criticism, and it will make the social-media platform lose its "magic," a former executive.

Currently, all users around the world had equal voices on the platform, former global communications head Brandon Borrman told BBC News.

By selling verification and higher visibility, the change would "stratify" Twitter.
