Facebook Suspends Tens of Thousands of Apps

Facebook announced that it has suspended tens of thousands of apps.

The move was announced in a blog post by Facebook VP of Product Partnerships Ime Archibong.

The suspensions follow an ongoing investigation after the "episode" in which data firm Cambridge Analytica manipulated Facebook user data to influence U.S. elections. Apps from close to 400 developers were involved.

Those targeted showed a "potential to abuse" Facebook policies and had access to “large amounts of information.” Ime Archibong, told the Washington Post.

Following the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook was issued a $5 billion fine by the Federal Trade Commission.

Calls for intensive regulations of tech giants, including Facebook, continue. Recently, attorney generals around the country filed a series of lawsuits against major tech firms.
