GoLocal24 Names Former Boston Globe President Daniels COO

Rick Daniels, GoLocal's new COO. Former President of Boston Globe
GoLocal24, a rapidly growing digital media company delivering local news and information to midsized markets, has appointed Rick Daniels as Chief Operating Officer with responsibilities over business infrastructure and media partnerships.

Daniels is the former President of the Boston Globe. He also served as CEO of Gatehouse Media for New England and led a consortium of investors who attempted to purchase the Boston Globe from the New York Times Company in 2013. He then went on to play a key role at Empirical Media Advisors based in New York, focused mainly on Tribune Publishing, where Emprical’s co-founder and CEO, Jack Griffin, recently took the role of CEO.

“Rick is a tremendous addition to the leadership of our team. At the helm of the Globe, Rick launched Boston.com and BostonWorks – two of the best and most highly monetized news Web products,” said Josh Fenton, Co-Founder and CEO of GoLocal24.

GoLocal24 announced in January it would be launching its third market, Portland, Oregon this summer. GoLocalPDX.com will focus on providing the highest quality investigative journalism, top-flight lifestyle content, and best in breed comprehensive news coverage.

Dynamic Media Company - Top Level Content

“GoLocal24 is one of the most dynamic local digital news organizations in America. Its success – defined by audience levels and profitable results - in its first two markets is unmatched. While others have attempted to aggregate and automate, GoLocal24 has created a scalable model that provides readers with the best in class content,” said Daniels. “I am tremendously excited to help GoLocal24 grow to the West Coast and to new markets in the U.S.”

By the end of Daniels’s leadership at the Globe, the paper had won a cumulative total of 18 Pulitzer Prizes, including the Pulitzer Prize for Meritorious Public Service that was awarded for The Globe’s work during the first year he was the Globe’s President.

The addition of Daniels and the upcoming expansion to Portland, Oregon spark a new phase for the four-year-old media company.

Presently, GoLocal24 has media partnerships with Clear Channel and Entercom.

GoLocal24’s original content has been picked up by Politico, the New York Times, Daily Mail, New York Post, Huffington Post, CBS Radio, ESPN, Yahoo Sports, Clear Channel, Deadspin, Cumulus, Entercom’s WEEI, Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Providence Journal, and dozens of other news organizations.

Growth

“We are seeing unprecedented growth and behavioral change by readers and viewers. The GoLocal brand is becoming a principal source of news and we are seeing national news organizations, as well as local TV and radio, depend on GoLocal’s reporting,” said Fenton.

“GoLocal24 is proving that content is truly king and there are remarkable opportunities for scaling this model, but it’s also critical to have a business model that is completely rooted in digital – as GoLocal24’s is” said Daniels.

GoLocal24 focuses on delivering the highest value local content – enterprise investigative stories, lifestyle, and local sports. The sites do not publish stories from news services. GoLocal24’s model highlights the work of many of the best journalists in the region and features top reporters including Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter Dean Starkman, opinion writers like former Massachusetts Speaker of the House Tom Finneran, and includes the work of more than 60 other reporters, editors, experts, and MINDSETTERS™.
