The school announced the election of Merrill Sherman, Derick Close, Phillip Renaud II and Darryl “Chip” Wade to its Board of Trustees.
“The election of these new members reinforces Johnson & Wales University’s commitment to providing its students with an excellent education, supported and guided by the knowledge, experience and insights of these strong business leaders,” said JWU Chancellor John J. Bowen.
Members who have completed their service include Nortek CEO Richard L. Bready, Triangolo Professional Group managing partner Edward P. Triangolo Jr. and SnowMark Corporation Director Guy B. Snowden.
“The members of the board will greatly miss our long-serving fellow trustees who are completing service this year, but we look forward to welcoming the new members who will bring a wide range of backgrounds and new perspectives to our boardroom, all for the benefit of JWU students,” said James H. Hance Jr., chair of the JWU Board of Trustees.
New Members
Merrill W. Sherman, of Jamestown, is a co-founder of Bank Rhode Island and the former President and CEO of three community banks and two publicly-traded bank holding companies. She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and University of Denver, College of Law.
Derick Close, of Charlotte, North Carolina, is the CEO and owner of Springs Creative Products Group, LLC in Charlotte. Close serves on the Board of Contour Machine Tool Corporation, The Springs Companies, the Springs Close Foundation, and the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance. He earned his bachelor of science degree from the North Carolina State textiles management program and received his master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Philip S. Renaud II, of New Albany, Ohio, is the Executive Director of The Risk Institute in the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University and has managed risk programs at Deutsche Post/DHL, Kmart Corporation and Limited Brands, Inc. He earned his bachelor’s degree in management from Johnson & Wales University and graduated from Hood College with a master’s degree in management.
Darryl “Chip” Wade, of Winter Park, Florida, is Executive Vice President of Operations of Red Lobster in Orlando, Florida and has served in a variety of senior positions at companies such as T.G.I. Fridays, Darden and Legal Sea Foods, Inc. He earned a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from Widener University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas.
