Media General Sells Channel 10 as Part of LIN Media Buy

Media General the parent company of WJAR 10 is selling Channel 10 to Sinclair Broadcasting in part to meet federal requirements of the acquisition of LIN Media - the parent company of WPRI-12 and Fox-64.

The merger of the two media groups has set off a series of media sales to meet the requirements of the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act.

Media General headquartered in Richmond, Virginia will own and operate WPRI-12 and Fox 64 in the Providence market.

WJAR 10 is being sold to Sinclair Broadcasting, which owns 162 TV stations in 78 markets across the US.  Sinclair is located in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

“We’re pleased to announce this divestiture plan, which we believe should clear the way for our business combination with LIN Media to move forward in the regulatory approval process,” said George L. Mahoney, President and Chief Executive Officer of Media General

Once the Media General acquisition of LIN Media is completed, Providence will lose corporate headquarters.
