Moore News: Rep. Finn Irked by Newport Daily News Bias and Boston Globe's Wow

In this edition, we take a look at an ousted state representative who feels wronged by the local newspaper and two big changes in the Boston Globe - a big new ad unit and improving their business coverage.

Ousted State Representative Linda Finn, who lost her reelection bid to former Republican Representative Dan Reilly, is irked by the Newport Daily News. The Newport Daily News, Finn said, ran a letter in the newspaper's editorial pages an email that she sent out to her supporters, which was never intended to be printed into the newspaper.

"Any other time I have ever sent a a letter to the paper, I specifically wrote "To The Editor" at the top of the email. Further, I was always contacted by the paper and asked if that was my intention," said Finn.

Finn said she did write a letter to the editor a few weeks prior, which was never published because it was submitted slightly past the publication deadline, she said. Finn also argued that the paper failed to report on ethics complaints that were filed against her opponent during the election.

"I understand the paper chose not to endorse my candidacy, but I also never expected them to try and undermine me," said Finn.

Boston Globe Revamps Business Section

The Boston Globe announced earlier today that the paper would be revamping its business section. The paper will now be giving Business its own section that will be included in the paper on Tuesday's through Fridays.

The paper's new business section will be edited by Providence Journal alum Cynthia Needham, who covered statehouse politics before signing on with The Globe to cover statehouse politics there.

Boston is a buzz as the venerable Globe's front page was an ad for UMass.  This may just be the beginning.

According to Northeastern Professor and media critic Dan Kennedy this is a new world.
