Recipient: Champlain College in Burlington, VT.

The donation will go on to fund child care for single-parent students. The Stiller Family Foundation is ranked with the fourth for the highest pledge in Vermont.

Amount: donated $1,000,000  

Recipient: Salve Regina University in Newport, RI 

The donation will go on to establish a graduate program in nursing. Mr. Rodgers is former chief executive officer of Globe Manufacturing, a company in Fall River, Massachusetts. The family's foundation is the sole donor(s) ranked from Rhode Island.

Hayes Jr. obtained his wealth from law practices, he is a former resident of Fredericksburg.

Recipient: Dunn School in Los Olivos, CA

The donation will go on to provide sccholarships to students from Africa. Mr. Rowland is a retired chief administrative officer of Eaton Vance, a financial-management firm in Boston. The Rowlands are ranked the third most generous donors form Vermont.

Donor: The Starr F. Schlobohm Trust (Starr F. Schlobohm) of New Hampshire

Amount: bequested $2,000,000

Recipient: Russell County Area Community Foundation in Kansas

The bequest will create a scholarship fund for students going into college. Mr. Schlobohm owned an oil and gas business. The Starr F. Schlobohm Trust made the highest bequest in New Hampshire and is ranked the second most generous donor from the state.

Amount: donated $3,000,000

Recipient: Maine College of Art in Portland, ME. 

Mr. Crewe is a songwriter who wrote "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," and "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You." The donation will create a program for the study of contemporary music and visual arts.

Amount: bequested $9,600,000

Recipient: Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, CT. 

Mr. Schwartz was a member of the museum and died in 1995. His mother's family co-founded the paper-goods company Kimberly-Clark Corp.

Robert P. and Christine Stiller are the third most generous donors from Vermont. Robert is the founder of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, in Waterbury, Vt.

Amount: pledged of $10,000,000  

Recipient: Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston

The pledge will go on to create the Albert A. and Christine J. Marcotte Center for Medical Innovation and fund research in the hospital. Mr. Marcotte is founder and president of Advanced Management Systems, a management consulting firm in Abington, Mass.

Amount: donated $10,000,000

Recipient: University of Notre Dame

The donation will fund the construction of a research facility. Mr. Crotty, an alumnus of the university, is a senior adviser at Battery Ventures, a venture-capital firm in Boston. The Crottys are the fourth most generous donors in Massachusetts.

Recipient: Georgetown University in Washington

Mr. Baker is the founder and chief executive of International Planning Group, a life-insurance company and a graduate of the university. The Bakers made the third highest donation in Massachusetts.

Recipient: University of New Hampshire in Durham

The donation from Mr. Hamel will provide scholarships for in-state students. Dana Hamel is the top donor from New Hampshire.

Amount: pledged $15,000,000

Recipient: Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. 

The donation will be bestowed upon the University's Institute for Basic Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Sheldon graduated from the medical school in 1956 and is the top donor from Vermont.
