“This cafe was the first one we opened — and we have been thrilled to be part of the Providence community. Over the past 18 years, Blue State Coffee grew to have 9 cafes in 3 states. We are so proud of this company and as a family-owned business, we feel it is the right time to make this change," states the sign.

According to Blue State Coffee’s website

"Blue State Coffee's mission is to create a ripple effect of positive change. As a family owned business that was founded on ideals, not just for profit, we care deeply about the people around us and strive to make a meaningful difference in their lives. Since our founding in 2004, we have donated over $1,000,000 to local non-profit organizations."

The story was first reported in the Brown Daily Herald.
