About Rory's

GoLocal first wrote about the store coming to Providence back in 2021

The independently-owned organic grocery store, which currently has locations in Massachusetts has been in business for over 40 years.

The Providence location will occupy 6,000+ square feet of retail space.

It opened its initial location in Dennisport, MA in 1978, followed by its second location in Mashpee, MA in 2014. The new downtown Providence location will be the company’s third store and the first located outside of Massachusetts.

The market’s owner and namesake, Rory Eames, took over ownership of the business from her mother Darby in 2019. "A family business at its core, the brand is built on the strength of community connections. In looking to expand her business beyond Cape Cod, Eames was initially attracted to Providence’s scale and growing downtown district," said the company in a statement.

“Building connections through food and atmosphere is such a fundamental part of our business,” Eames said. “In a city like Providence, we can play an active role in the community. We’re excited to join the vibrant downtown Providence neighborhood, not just as a new business, but as a hub for people to connect.”

“Downtown residents have been asking for a grocery store and we are excited to bring Rory’s Market and Kitchen to the neighborhood. Within blocks, residents, those working downtown and visitors to the city will have an easy walk to pick up organic groceries, fresh bread, sandwiches, salads, smoothies and more,” said Buff Chace, the landlord to the new market. “With tables available as well, Rory’s is not just a grocery store, it’s a gathering spot."

According to the announcement, Rory’s will offer customers a wide selection of organic produce, natural grocery staples, unique specialty items, and a selection of supplements. In addition to the grocery products, Rory’s will serve customers fresh juices, smoothies and elixirs at the juice bar. The full café menu at Rory’s Kitchen will offer all-day breakfasts, avocado toasts, fresh salads, sandwiches and hot bowls. The store plans to stock a grab-and-go variety of prepared foods for downtown customers looking for a quick bite.
