Fox Point Coffee Shop Closing After 13 Years

Malachi’s Cafe, located on Ives Street, is shutting its doors — but will be open this week to sell remaining merchandise.
Known for its art, top-notch coffee, and whimsical drinks — pictured is the “Monkey’s Banana Frappe,” Malachi’s had a strong local following.

And for the owner, the end of this chapter might be the beginning of a new one.
New Beginnings -- And Old Family Ties
“I had a few surgeries this year — I’m not a spring chicken any more,” owner Joe Sousa told GoLocal in an interview on Wednesday.
“Someone out of the blue approached me, someone I’d never expect would have an interest in the building,” said Sousa of finalizing the sale of the building. “We negotiated a little bit and both sides were happy.”
As for Sousa and his wife, they hope to get back to their roots.
“My wife and I are from the Azores originally, and we’ve been planning on going back for some time,” said Sousa.
