NEW: Merrill Sherman Joins BCBSRI Board of Directors

Ms. Sherman will sit on two committees on the BCBSRI board: Finance, and Health, Market and Strategic Initiatives. She brings a track record of visionary leadership, strong financial performance and the ability to build exceptional management teams. Ms. Sherman is the Principal of Sherman Consulting, LLC. Earlier, she served as president and chief executive officer of Bank Rhode Island and its publicly traded parent company, which she co-founded and where she worked for 16 years. She also served as president and chief executive officer for two other community banks in New England.

As a result of her professional and personal accomplishments, Ms. Sherman has received numerous recognitions including Providence Business News’ Rhode Island’s 25 Most Influential Business Leaders in the past 25 years in 2011; U.S. Banker’s 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking in 2010; and March of Dimes, Rhode Island Chapter’s Citizen of the Year for 2007.
Ms. Sherman received her bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College and her law degree from the University of Denver College of Law.
