NEW: Natural Gas Prices on the Rise in New England

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has issued a special winter alert on the Northeast natural gas and electricity market.

Because of winter temperatures in both New York and Boston, which are expected to reach lows tonight of 12°F and 7°F respectively, Bentek Energy forecasts that demand for natural gas will remain at high levels through Friday and, in New England, Monday’s load may be slightly higher than Friday’s.

Natural gas prices for delivery, meanwhile, are near $30 in New England, which is the highest price since January of 2004. Electricity prices in the region are currently at $226.84 per MWh.
