NEW: RI Ranks 49th for Roads
A new state-by-state study conducted by the Reason Foundation found that only Alaska's roads are worse than Rhode Island's.
The report released over the 4th of July holiday celebration.The Report said about RI: The bottom line is that Rhode Island is spending two to three times the national per-mile average on its state road system, but its rural non-interstate roads, deficient bridges and urban congestion aren’t improving.

But some large states—notably Missouri, Texas and Georgia—were also top-12 performers. At the bottom were Alaska, Rhode Island, Hawaii, California and New Jersey," said the Report.
Rhode Island's Got Problems
As GoLocalProv has previously reported - Rhode Island has serious issues with the condition of its bridges. The Reason report focuses on rural roads.
With 1,112 miles in the state-owned highway system, Rhode Island is the 2nd smallest system in the nation. However, disbursements per mile are 2.4 times higher than the national average, ranking 42nd in per-mile spending.
