NEW: STAC Names New Co-Chair

The Rhode Island Science and Technology Advisory Council announced today that current STAC member Peter Alfonso would be taking on the role of co-chair, along with fellow co-chair Clyde Briant. Alfonso is currently the Vice President for Research and Economic Development at the University of Rhode Island, and Briant is the Vice President of Research at Brown.

 

“We are fortunate and grateful to have the talent and expertise of Peter and Tony who are tremendous assets to STAC as it continues its vital leadership role in strengthening Rhode Island’s knowledge economy,” said RIEDC Executive Director Keith Stokes.

The council was established in 2005 with the purpose of increasing the state’s research and development capacity while also encouraging entrepreneurship and new company creation. Council members represent leaders from across business, academic and public sectors.

Members of the council also heard from Joanne Padrón Carney, the Director for Government Relations for the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, who discussed federal funding opportunities for science and technology initiatives.
