Residential Properties has announced the sale of the Nicholson Estate on the East Side of Providence for $3.82 million, the highest sale on the East Side this year.

"I was pleased to have been able to sell my client's prominent property for its highest and best use, while preserving the original family home. Balancing the economic goals of my clients while at the same time respecting the character of our neighborhoods, is what I strive to do in these unique situations,” said sales associate Jim DeRentis.

The buyers for 288 Blackstone Boulevard, the Nicholson home, were represented by Kira Greene and Michael J. Sweeney of the Greene | Sweeney Team, while DeRentis represented the buyers for the Slater Avenue and 280 Blackstone sales.

The estate has been a focus of controversy as the initial plan was to tear down the mansion and develop eleven homes on the site. Those plans have been scaled down and the mansion will be preserved although an adjacent guest house and historic playhouse will be lost.
