CVS pharmacies will soon be closed for lunch.

Text messages went out this week to Rhode Island customers from the Woonsocket-headquartered pharmacy company, letting them know the change will take effect at the end of the month.

“Starting Feb. 28, the pharmacy department at CVS Pharmacy locations in your area may be closed from 1:30 to 2:00 PM daily for lunch,” the text message said.

The change is reportedly taking place across the country.

Latest Changes for CVS

“CVS is rolling out uninterrupted lunch breaks for pharmacists to address the burnout crisis the profession faces,” reported Beckers Hospital Review this week.

The publication cited a February 11 Drug Store News report.

"We want to make sure our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are at their best, which means supporting their schedules accordingly. While we've always had a meal break policy, we've begun rolling out a pre-scheduled, uninterrupted lunch break across our pharmacies," a CVS spokesperson told Drug Store News.

The announcement marks the latest for CVS — in November, the pharmacy giant announced it will be closing 900 stores over the next three years.

Both CVS and Walgreens temporarily closed some stores in January due to staff shortages during the surge in omicron. During the surge, some CVS locations were temporarily closed one or both days of the weekend, according to a TCplam.com report.
