Around the country, GateHouse Media has slashed at least 60 more jobs — many of them are sports reporters and photographers.
“Sources close to the layoffs and tweets from journalists estimated that over 60 employees across at least 18 publications lost their jobs. The acquired papers and other GateHouse properties were impacted, according to several journalists who were affected and local media reports,” reports Business Insider.

At least three employees were cut late last week in Rhode Island. The cuts came directly after the buyout offer from GateHouse failed to attract any takers. This is just the latest round of cuts at the Rhode Island newspapers. In September, the Providence Journal's weekday paid circulation dropped to less than 44,000.

Gary Higgins, former staff photographer at The Patriot Ledger of Quincy, Massachusetts, Tweeted, "Hope you all had a better Friday than me. Terminated today after 31 years as Staff Photographer at the #PatriotLedger. Was in New Orleans 17 years ago tonight getting ready to cover that other Rams Patriots big game. Some Fridays are better than others!"
Just weeks before, GateHouse purchased Schurz Communications a family owned 10-newspaper group in Indiana. GateHouse is owned and managed by a series of companies that leads to ownership by Tokyo-based venture capital firm SoftBank.
