Providence Ranked One of America’s Most Overpriced Cities

Providence ranked 20th in a listing of America’s most overpriced cities by Forbes Magazine

Forbes took the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas and studied housing affordability using the latest Housing Opportunity Index from the National Association of Home Builders and Wells Fargo. 

According to the study, in the Providence metro area groceries are 9.6% costlier than the national average, utilities are 28.3% higher, transportation costs 4.5% more, and health care is 15.8% more expensive than the national average.

The area median income in the Providence metro area is $72,200, the median home sale price is $199,000, and the housing available at median family income levels are 73.2%.

Boston ranked as the #3 most overpriced city in America, and Honolulu ranked as the least affordable city overall.
