Providence Ranks as Worst City in U.S. for Hispanic Entrepreneurs - Again

Providence ranked as worst city in U.S. for Hispanic Entrepreneurs
Providence is the worst city in the country for Hispanic entrepreneurs. 

According to a recent study completed by WalletHub, Providence ranks 150th out of 150 ranked cities when it comes to Hispanic entrepreneurs.

This is the second straight year in which Providence ranks last.

“Expect the Hispanic and Latino community’s contributions to the U.S. economy to be nothing short of monumental in the coming decades. Not only is this demographic expected to make up a third of the U.S. population by 2050 — translating into immense buying power — this group is also creating businesses at 15 times the national rate, according to one report,” said WalletHub. 

Providence’s Rankings: 

  • 132nd- Lowest Median Annual Income of Hispanics 
  • T 123rd- Highest Hispanic Unemployment Rate 
  • 150th- Hispanic Business Friendliness 
  • 147th- Hispanic Purchasing Power 

 

The Rankings 

Providence ranks behind Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and New York, who rank 148th and 149th respectively. 

Laredo, Texas is ranked as the best city in the U.S. for Hispanic entrepreneurs.

The Method 

WalletHub’s analysts compared the 150 most populated U.S. cities across two key dimensions, namely “Hispanic Business-Friendliness” and “Hispanic Purchasing Power.” 

They then evaluated the two dimensions using 21 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable conditions for Hispanic entrepreneurs. 

WalletHub then calculated the total score for each city based on its weighted average across all metrics and used the resulting scores to construct our final ranking.
