Rhode Island Has the 5th Highest Average Monthly Energy Bill in the Nation
RI Energy costs are among the highest in the country according to a new report.
Measuring the difference in energy costs in every state and the District of Columbia, WalletHub concluded that Rhode Islanders have the 5th highest monthly energy bill in the nation for 2015.
The study summed the total monthly cost of four different sources of energy: electricity, natural gas, motor fuel and home heating oil. WalletHub concluded that the average monthly energy bill for Rhode Islanders is $346.00 made up of $98.00 to electricity, $54.00 to natural gas, $95.00 to motor fuel and nearly $100.00 to home heating oil.
Despite the comparatively high energy bill, Rhode Islanders actually have low relative consumption of both electricity and motor fuel. Rhode Island actually has the 5th lowest electricity consumption per total housing units and consume the 3rd lowest amount of motor fuel.
On the other hand, it comes as no surprise that Rhode Island has the 3rd highest average per household consumption of heating oil.
The WalletHub graphic below ranks the states from lowest average energy bill to highest.
