Rhode Island was ranked the fourth least energy-expensive state in 2014, according to a study by WalletHub.

WalletHub compared the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia based on their tendency to be the most and least energy-efficient.

WalletHub studied six key metrics to explore a number of different factors.

The factors included price and consumption of electricity, gas prices, and number of miles driven.

Energy costs are about 7.1% of the average consumer’s total income.
