RI Airport Corp Hosting Community Meetings in Middletown on Airport Strategic Plan

The Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) is inviting local leaders and aviation stakeholders to a series of meetings to be held across the state to seek their input and be briefed on a strategic plan initiative involving Rhode Island’s General Aviation Airports (Newport, Quonset, Block Island, Westerly and North Central).

The first meeting will focus on Newport State Airport and has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the J.H. Gaudet Middle School, 1113 Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown. 

Future dates will be announced when they are formalized

RIAC operates and maintains RI’s General Aviation Airports for the benefit of the state, local communities and stakeholders.  The meetings are open to the public.

The key elements of the strategic plan include:

- Development of a ten-year plan to assess the condition of the airport infrastructure. This plan will summarize and prioritize necessary improvements at each airport.

- Development of a ten-year plan to assess the condition of airfields, roadways and parking area pavements.  This plan will summarize and prioritize necessary pavement repairs and reconstructions at each airport.

- Development of an updated airspace analysis plan.  This plan will identify current obstructions present within the airspace surrounding the airports and runways.

Preparation of a ten-year business plan which will evaluate the current financial health of each airport, define economic development opportunities and provide potential paths forward to establish self-sustaining operations.

To support the efforts in establishing these plans, RIAC has formed an internal task force comprised of aviation experts in the fields of engineering, planning, operations, finance, legal and property management.
