RI Ranks 6th Worst on Business Taxes for 2015

The State Business Tax Climate Index has ranked Rhode Island as #6 Worst on Business Taxes for 2015. This was the same ranking that was determined in the findings for 2014. 

In this the 11th edition of The Index's report, ranking was dropped based on more burdensome or complicated tax codes and boosted for tax codes that promoted transparency and neutrality for businesses. 

This report for the 2015 year analyzed tax variables including: corporate, individual income, sales, property, and unemployment insurance taxes.

“The federal government is gridlocked, but state policymakers on both sides of the aisle are enacting truly fundamental reforms,” said Tax Foundation Economist and Manager of State Projects Scott Drenkard.  “States are doing their part and it’s time that Washington steps up.”

The report found that Rhode Island ranked the following in each of these categories (#50 being the worst and #1 being the best):

Rhode Island’s overall State Business Tax Climate ranking: #45
Corporate tax structure: #43
Individual income tax structure: #38
Sales tax structure: #26
Property tax structure: #47
Unemployment insurance tax structure: #49
