The Rhode Island Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP-RI) has presented Seven Stars Bakery with the Award for Outstanding Philanthropic Business. The Rhode Island bakery received the honor at the National Philanthropy Day Breakfast & Award Ceremony held late last month. Seven Stars was recognized for their generous philanthropic contributions to the Rhode Island community. Seven Stars was nominated for the award by the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Giving back since day one

Philanthropy and community building have been integral parts of the Seven Stars business model since Jim and Lynn Williams began the company in 2001. From day one Seven Stars has donated their daily leftovers to organizations such as the Salvation Army, Amos House, and local food pantries.

Five years later the company began their annual Anniversary Day every January 2, when they donate 100% of their profits for the day from all of their restaurants to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Starting in the fall of 2012, Seven Stars expanded on this idea by designating the first Tuesday of every month as Community Giving Day. And for the sixth year in a row, Seven Stars partnered with Courtesy Cleaners for the “Coats for Coffee” drive to collect gently-used winter coats for distribution to children and families in need through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence.

Seven Stars has three locations in Rhode Island: 820 Hope Street, Providence; 342 Broadway, Providence; and 20 Newman Avenue, East Providence.
