Two Rhode Island Movie Theaters Will Not Reopen, Showcase Seekonk Future Uncertain

South Kingstown Cinemas issued a statement this week that the pandemic has made it too financially difficult to say open.
“We would like to thank all of our loyal patrons for the many years you have supported the theater,” they said. “Unfortunately COVID-19 has made it economically impossible to reopen.”

The Showcase Cinemas in Seekonk are not listed on the parent company page; calls to Seekonk were not answered Thursday morning.

Nationally, the Industry Has been Hammered
AMC Entertainment posted a net loss of $4.59 billion for 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic forced most of its theaters to shutter for much of the year, reported ABC News. The nation's largest movie theater chain reported in its earnings two weeks ago that it lost some $946 million in the 4th quarter of 2020 alone.
