“Sun Country is an airline on the move and we appreciate that they have included us in their expansion plans,” said Iftikhar Ahmad, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. “Each new route strengthens Rhode Island’s economy and provides greater and more economical travel options for Rhode Island.”
“As we begin service in Providence today, we’re excited to already announce more service to bring residents to these two great vacation destinations,” said Chief Commercial Officer Ted Botimer. “We’ve been very pleased with the response to our entrance into the market and look forward to our continued partnership with the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.”
“Sun Country Airlines doubling down on their presence at T.F. Green is great news for Rhode Island travelers and businesses,” said Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey. “I know many Rhode Islanders will want to take advantage of the new non-stop service to these two exciting destinations.”
“As business at our airport expands and airlines continue to offer more flights, that’s great news for the economy and tourism of Rhode Island,” said Rep. Brian Patrick Kennedy, Speaker Pro Tempore of the House of Representatives. “T.F. Green is already one of the best places to fly in the country. The expansion by Sun Country Airlines of direct, non-stop flights is proof that our airport continues to head in the right direction.”
“These new, non-stop flights to New Orleans and Las Vegas are an exciting and welcome addition to the ever-growing list of service areas provided by T. F. Green,” Mayor Joseph Solomon said. “Every time a new destination is added, it opens the doors of possibility for visitors to come and experience all that Warwick and the state has to offer.”
“It’s exciting that Sun Country is already expanding its presence and route offerings at T.F Green, one of America’s most convenient airports,” said Rhode Island Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor. “These flights to Las Vegas and New Orleans will be utilized by business travelers and tourists alike, spurring new revenues and opportunities for our state.”
“On behalf of the board, we are pleased Sun Country has made this additional commitment to T.F. Green Airport. We would encourage all Rhode Islanders and regional travelers to take advantage of the introductory fares and support these routes,” said Jonathan Savage, chair of RIAC’s Board of Directors.
The Las Vegas route will begin on September 5 and the New Orleans route will begin on September 6. In addition to the new flights to Las Vegas and New Orleans, Sun Country began nonstop service from Providence, Rhode Island to Nashville, Tennessee and Minneapolis/St. Paul today.
The airline first added new routes beyond its home base of Minneapolis/St. Paul in June 2018, bringing on service from Dallas-Fort Worth, Madison, Wisconsin, Portland, Oregon and St. Louis, which brought the network at the time from 53 to 64 nonstop routes. Nashville, Tennessee was added in August 2018, Providence was added in January of 2019, and the airline now operates a total of 95 routes across 54 airports, which marks a more than 80 percent growth in routes since June 2018.
