WPRO's John DePetro Apologizes

John DePetro, radio talk show host at WPRO AM, apologized on air this morning for comments he had made on air in September. DePetro has come underfire from leading union leaders via a group asking advertisers to boycott advertisers and Cumulus radio.

DePetro read a prepared statement that said:

"I have been a radio professional for a long time and have a great passion for this medium. However, it is a live broadcast day in and day out, and sometimes, in the
heat of the moment, things can be said that have no place on my program.

Some people are upset over a comment I made in September. I regret not choosing my words more carefully that morning. The language I used was not in keeping with the family friendly atmosphere I try to maintain for the thousands of people who listen each day.The tone expressed was not consistent with the strong support I have shown women in our state and in my own life. Though I believe it is important for the public to hear both sides of issues, going forward I intend to approach debates on current topics in a more sensitive style. I know I am capable of this , and so I apologize to the individuals I offended.

In particular, I hope the recent efforts to impact a local Rhode Island company who has done so much for our economy, young people, charities, and women, will be let free from this debate as they are a beacon of hope for all of us in this state."

After his statement, former GOP legislator John Loughlin, said referred listeners back to a discussion of road rage.
