Ben Sukle: 14 Who Made a Difference in RI in 2014

Ben Sukle
In a town known for great restaurants -- and great chefs -- Sukle has raised the bar once again in Providence with Birch.  Tapped as a "Trender" by GoLocal in 2013 (as well as one to watch that year), Sukle and his wife have garnered the attention not just of local foodies -- Birch was nominated by Bon Appetit for "Best New Restaurant in America."

And not just a culinary star, Sukle is an example of the best and brightest staying in Providence after college, have graduated from Johnson and Wales University. From there he went on to work in numerous restaurants, including a stint as a stagaire at Noma in Copenhagen, and in Providence’s La Laiterie (before it closed) and The Dorrance.

As Sukle told GoLocal, "The end goal has always been to own and operate our own restaurant. We have been looking for over 3 years at spaces and it just took patience and resources (that's a big one) for us to decide if a particular venture was worth investing in. One thing that can't be understated is that Rhode Island has been such an incredible place to work and grow. It’s also one of the hardest. We're going to work like crazy to make everyone who comes through our doors feel welcomed and has a wonderful experience."
