Fall Food Events

With the summer festivals behind us, bring on the fall tastings, dinners, and more special events. Here's what all food lovers need to get on their calendar for the coming season:

Fleming's "Month of Discovery"/September

It's literally a month's worth of food and wine events at the popular Providence steakhouse. Leading the charge: Fleming's 100 "Opening Nights," a series of tastings that feature 20 wines from the extensive wine by the glass list. Each opening night (September 9, 16, 23, and 30) is $25 and includings a preview tasting of selections from Fleming's new Small Plates Menu. And on that note, Small Plates debut on the menu beginning September 21. Bigger than apps, smaller than full steakhoues entrees, look for items such as sliced filet mignon, New Zealand petite lamb chops, and New Bedford scallops.

Don't miss Fleming's Silver Oak Wine Dinner September 13. The annual national wine dinner generally celebrates a single wine producer, but this year five wines for "twin sister" wineries of Silver Oak and Twomey Cellars will be showcased. A five-course dinner is part of the night. For more go here.  Finally, Fleming's is giving away a signed, limited-edition giclee on canvas by the celebrated fine arts painter Thomas Arvid, whose works are showcased on the restaurant's walls. To enter, visit here.
