Local Food Find: The Smallest Bite Truffles

It's a rare event when something noble is actually delicious, but we've discovered The Smallest Bite, a fundamentally fantastic truffle that is dairy-free (really) and therefore vegan, made from organic and trade-free chocolates, not to mention all natural and organic ingredients.

Wait, did we mention they're delicious?

And packaged in 100% recycled, 100% recyclable and 100% compostable boxes?

Wait, did we mention they're really delicious?

Credit Season James, the fresh-faced local food blogger, who began sharing photos from her young life along with vegetarian recipes late last year, and found herself in pursuit of a truffle recipe for her vegan and lactose-intolerant friends.  Her trio of truffles--Original Organic Chocolate,  Toasted Coconut and Salted Pistachio, and Blackberry Pretzel--are each creamily textured, just the right balance of dark chocolate and hints of flavor, and perfectly sized for biting.

James creates a fresh batch every week and marks each box with her "made on" and "enjoy by" date for not only your well-being, but inspiration.  As in: Oh no, these are about to expire... I better do something about that.

On the other hand, if you're a fan of postponed pleasure, James hastens to point out that her truffles freeze for up to a month.  Just let them warm up slowly.  And try to eat them that way.

Box of 6 pieces $12; 12 pieces $18; 24 pieces $30, order at www.thesmallestbite.com
