NEW: Providence's Temple Downtown Restaurant Closes

The well-known Temple Downtown Restaurant, tucked below the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel, has closed its doors today, according to management.

Peter Karpinski, co-founder and owner of the restaurant, has issued this open letter regarding the sudden news today.

Dear Providence Community,

As of Thursday, December 27th, 2012, due to a change of ownership / management environment outside of our control, Temple Downtown will be closed for business. We want to personally thank everyone for their support over the years. Without this loyalty we would not have been able to service downtown Providence for six memorable years.

Temple Downtown was part of the long-anticipated redevelopment of Providence's Masonic Temple building. The restaurant was a popular gathering spot during major event in the city, particularly Rhode Island's Film Festivals. Its presence will by sorely missed.
