The Cellar: Loire & More Day 1

Loire Valley
Every year I travel to one of the major wine regions abroad. This year I am in France. More specifically the Loire Valley where I have 13 days of wine swirling, sniffing and sipping ahead of me. Over the next couple of weeks I will be reporting daily(ish) as I visit producers large and small and explore the many different wines this diverse region has to offer. While some of the producers I plan on visiting aren’t distributed in RI or MA I still hope you enjoy the reading.

Day #1 – Travel Day: After an overnight flight via Iceland, an hour of crawling through Paris’ afternoon traffic and 4 hours along route A11, my dinky Ford Fiesta and I have finally arrived at our first destination - Nantes. For the first 2 days of this year’s European wine adventure, this gorgeous city will be my base as I explore the Muscadet Region and its many wines, including its flagship wine from the sub-region of Sevre-et-Maine. From there I will be traveling east visiting regions such as Anjou, Saumur, Touraine, Chinon, Bourgueil, Vouvray, Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé along the way. At the end of my visit I plan on stopping in Chablis and Meursault as well – I can’t help myself.

Stay tuned,
