XO Cafe to host a Corn & Tomato FestivalXO Cafe in Providence is set to celebrate its “Farm-to-Table” philosophy with a Corn & Tomato Festival.
The festival runs from Monday, September 18 through Saturday, September 23.
"Rhode Island corn and tomatoes are some of the best I’ve ever tasted. We have taken these beautiful raw ingredients and incorporated them into world class dishes. XO Café, 20 years young, has been serving farm-to-table before the term was created,” said John Elkhay, CEO of Chow Fun Food Group.
Get into the season with corn and tomato inspired specials, all prepared with local ingredients.
Chef Andy Pyle starts the Corn & Tomato menu with Bigeye Tuna Tartare combining the flavors of a hot sauce vinaigrette, fried green tomatoes, and red pepper aioli. Joining the appetizers is a Roasted Corn Esquites with Royal Red shrimp, cilantro mayonnaise, Cotija cheese, lime, and chili threads.
Participants can choose between two entrées including Grilled Flat Iron and Scallops with Corn Velouté. The Grilled Flat Iron is accompanied with corn maque choux, wilted arugula, and smoked tomato vinaigrette.
The second option, Scallops with Corn Velouté is complimented with hearts of palm, garden basil, cherry tomato, and Maldon sea salt.
For the finale Chef Pyle presents, the dessert of Basil Panna Cotta with Tomato Sorbet to complete your Corn & Tomato Festival experience.
The Rhode Island Seafood Festival is an annual event, which started in 2011, that brings together the best local sellers of seafood and other fine fare as well as beer, wine and spirits from Ocean State producers.
The festival includes live music, great food and much more.
The Phantom Gourmet Food Festival is an event to look forward too and it will be held on September 12 from 12- 4 p.m. on two streets next to Fenway Park.
Tickets are $40 in advance and online and will go up to $50 at the event.
The ticket includes sampling 100 of Phantom's foods from hot dogs and pizza to pulled pork and more. Beer and wine will be served on the street.
