Be Fit Nutrition Holds Fundraiser For Domestic Violence Awareness

Be Fit Nutritional was a big help to the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County this October.
Be Fit Nutrition has raised hundreds of dollars for the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County during its month-long "Shake It Up For a Cause" fundraiser to support Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The campaign took place admist Rhode Island’s nationally recognized “Know More/No More Domestic Violence” October campaign, which educated people about recognizing the signs of domestic violence and helped teach safe intervention techniques for bystanders.

The DVRCSC is a non-profit agency that "works toward a future free of violence, and to build a community in which each individual shares the responsibility to create a culture of safety and personal dignity." The agency offers safety, support, advocacy, education, and a network of services for their cause.

“Domestic violence is a very real and very dangerous epidemic, which has claimed the lives of ten Rhode Islanders already in 2013,” said Mary Roda, Executive Director of DVRCSC. “Thousands of people every year—mostly women and children—need our emergency hotline, safe shelter, court advocacy, counseling, and other services.”

Shaking it up

Be Fit Nutrition's role in supporting the DVRCSC was a delicious one. “When we heard about the NO MORE campaign, we knew we had to get involved,” said Cindy Paiva, co-owner of Be Fit Nutrition and one of the organizers of the event. “Be Fit Nutrition is a social club with the purpose of educating others about the importance of good health and nutrition in a fun and energetic environment. And we also believe in healthy relationships!”

The Narragansett company is known for their delicious, nutritional milkshakes. During the “Shake It Up For a Cause” fundraiser, customers could purchase their shake in a NO MORE reusable cup, or buy raffle tickets to win a basket of products. Be Fit Nutrition made a matching donation for all money raised, donating a total of $502 to the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County.

Be Fit Nutrition is located at 10A Pier Marketplace in Narragansett. To learn more about them, go to http://www.be-fit-nutrition.com or call 401-788-0300.
