Disciplinary Actions Taken Against Two RI Physicians

An East Providence physician has been cited for violating state and federal law on controlled substances, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH).

Questions Raised by Another Physician

Dr. Anthony V. Rocha, 60, an internal medicine physician, was reported to the board by another doctor who performs per-employment physicals for a defense contractor. The doctor claimed Rocha attempted to deceive the physician concerning clinical treatment of an applicant regarding the patient’s pre-employment drug screen. The patient had tested positive for cocaine use. Roth had been practicing medicine since 1977.

An investigation by the Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline found that Rocha acted in violation of Rhode Island General Laws and cited him for unprofessional conduct. Rocha has agreed to remain under jurisdiction of the Board and his state controlled substances registration has been placed on probationary status until the completion of a continuing medical education seminar program.
