Mental Health Association of RI to Celebrate 100th Year

The Mental Health Association of Rhode Island will mark its 100th year in RI with its Bell Ringer Award and Centennial Celebration on Wednesday, November 16 at Metacomet Country Club in East Providence. 

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will present awards to local leaders in the field of mental health. Tickets are $100.

The even includes a light dinner, an entertainment by Mary King, celtic harpist, who is also a member of the MHARI board of directors and Jessica Litwin, singer and guitarist, who will present a song dedicated to the memory of her friend who committed suicide.

The Award Winners

Gregory Fritz, MD, Chief of Child Psychiatry at Lifespan and President of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry will receive The Bell Award for 2016 which recognizes a mental health champion in the community whose work has been important to promote mental health and to improve the lives of people who live with mental illness.  

The Bell Award event has been a tradition at the Mental Health Association of RI for many years as a means to honor and celebrate mental health champions in RI who have made a significant difference to the health of the community, the treatment of people with mental illness, and the awareness and knowledge about mental health and wellness. 

Previous recent winners have included Patrick Kennedy and Robert Andrade.

Barbara Morse Silva, NBC10 Health Reporter & Weekend Anchor will receive the MHARI Anti-Stigma Award. Butler Hospital will receive the Isaac Ray Community Partner Award. Charles Feldman, a leader in mental health advocacy in RI, will receive the Elizabeth Earls Consumer Advocacy Award.  

Representative Eileen Naughton, career advocate for individuals with disabilities will receive the Clarice Gothberg Award for Advocacy.
