Miriam Hospital Awarded Highest Nursing Credential for 5th Time

The Miriam Hospital has attained Magnet recognition as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program. This is the fifth time that Miriam has achieved this designation and they are only one of four hospitals nationwide to do so. 

“We are so proud and thrilled to receive our fifth Magnet designation, This is a celebration and recognition of our unique culture at The Miriam and the standards of nursing excellence that are ingrained in our model of patient care," said Maria Ducharme, MS, RN, NEA-BC, senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Miriam. 

In order to achieve Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff. That process starts with the submission of an electronic application, then written documentation demonstrating qualitative and quantitative evidence regarding patient care and outcomes.

If those scores fall within the range of excellence, an on site visit will occur to assess the applicant. After this, the Commission on Magnet will review the completed process and determine whether or not to grant Magnet recognition. 

There are currently 410 ANCC Magnet recognized organizations.
