Nurses Union, Teamsters to Hold March & Rally Over Lifespan Sick Policy

Members of the United Nurses and Allied Professionals (UNAP) and Teamsters Local 251 will march from Rhode Island Hospital to Lifespan’s Point Street offices where there will be a solidarity rally.

The march and rally will be held on Thursday, February 2 at 4 p.m.

The rally will be held to highlight the “unfair and draconian” changes Lifespan has made to its sick policy.

"Lifespan's policy is putting patients and health professionals at risk. By refusing to work with the UNAP and Teamsters, Lifespan management is forcing its' employees to make an impossible choice: come to work when you are ill, or face disciplinary actions up to and including termination," said Helene Macedo, RN, UNAP Local 5098 president.

Maceio added that the new policy is unfair to part-time and weekend workers.

UNAP represents over 2,200 nurses, therapists, technologists and other allied health professionals at Rhode Island Hospital.
