10 Great Places to Paddle

Savvy canoeists and kayakers have always known the best spots for getting out on the water, but now there's hope for the rest of us. The Rhode Island Blueways Alliance, working in partnership with nine watershed organizations, the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program and the Rhode Island Foundation, has created twenty detailed, full-color paddle trail maps, showcasing paddle tours throughout the state. In addition to paddling information and directions to the put-ins, many of the maps also include historical or natural history information about the places you'll see on that tour.  All the maps can be downloaded for free at the RI Blueways web site.

“These beautiful maps showcase unexplored special places in our state,” said Meg Kerr, Treasurer of the Blueways Alliance, Watershed Program Manager for the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program and coordinator of the project. “Watershed groups throughout the state came together to describe places to paddle in the rivers, ponds and coastal areas in their watershed. Along with descriptions of where to park and where to paddle, the maps include tidbits of the natural and human history of the waterways.” Here are 10 areas covered by these beautiful new maps.
