4th Annual Luncheon Commemorates Women Warriors

This Veteran's Day, November 11th at the Quidnessett Country Club, Operation Stand Down Rhode Island will honor the courageous women who serve our country.

The aptly named  Women Warriors Luncheon will feature a panel of three women and a key speaker who will share their stories of service and strife. 

“Women have valiantly served in our nation’s military since the Revolutionary War.  Increasingly they have been placed in ever greater numbers in harm’s way," said OSDRI's Executive Director Erik Wallin. "As a result, they return with the same problems their male comrades do: physical disabilities, PTSD and economic challenges due to multiple deployments.  We as a state and a nation owe them the same commitment we have made to our male veterans.”

Quidnessett Country Club, 630WPRO & 99.7FM, AM790, 92PROFM and Lite Rock 105 are partnering with local businesses to benefit Operation Stand Down's U.S. Marine CPL Holly Charette Home in Johnston, "Rhode Island’s first and only transitional housing for homeless female veterans."

The home houses six female veterans at any one time and was opened in July 2010, five years after Marine CPL Charette's convoy was hit by a suicide bomber in Falujuah.

She was the first Rhode Island woman to die in Iraq. 

The luncheon is open to the public and tickets are $50 per person and the event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
